The following Fowler Rotary Club Proclamation was accepted at the March 15, 2010 meeting, of the Fowler Town Council.

Rotary International Literacy Proclamation

WHEREAS , Rotary International, founded on February 23, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois USA, is the world's first and one of the largest non-profit service organizations; and

WHEREAS , the Rotary motto "Service above Self" inspires members to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and promote good will and peace in the world; and

WHEREAS , the Fowler Rotary Club, in cooperation with the Rotary District 6540 Literacy Initiative project for 2009-2010, encourages everyone to realize how important Literacy is to our entire community; and

WHEREAS , It is encouraged that a parent or grandparent, please take the time to read to young children or grandchildren every day, or as often as possible, and

WHEREAS , Volunteers are encouraged to read to young children at your local library or elementary school, and consider becoming a part of a tutoring program with the local elementary school, to serve as a mentor; and

WHEREAS , It is encouraged that you sign up your pre-school age children to be a part of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library here in Benton County, at the Benton County Public Library, for your child to receive one new book each month, by mail, addressed directly to the child participant until they reach the age of five; and

WHEREAS , Adults can continue to enhance their knowledge of computes, learn a foreign language, or doing other skills, through continuing education courses at our high school; and

WHEREAS , there are approximately 2,800 Rotary club members in 55 clubs throughout the northern third of Indiana, in Rotary District 6540, sponsoring service projects to address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment in their local communities, and abroad. 

THEREFORE , We the members of the Fowler Town Council located in Fowler, Indiana, do hereby proclaim the month of March as Rotary International Literacy Month in cooperation with the Fowler Rotary Club, and all Rotarians around the world, and encourage all citizens to join us in recognizing Rotary International for its more than 105 years of service to improving the human condition in local communities around the world.
