"OPERATION HOOSIER HONOR" - How Everyone can Support our Hoosier Soldiers Deployed to Afghanistan on Veteran's Day - November 11, 2010.

Nothing makes a deployed soldier Smile like a Package from HOME.  Support our Deployed Hoosier Soldiers Fighting the War on Terror in Afghanistan, by sending them a Care Package on their Day - Veteran's Day 2010.  These soldiers are all living in some pretty austere environments that do not provide them with some of the basic necessities, entertainment and social interaction that we enjoy in our free society.  These Soldiers would love to hear from you with a personal note along with a package full of needed items that are not readily available to them in Afghanistan.  We will have approximately 100 Hoosier soldiers deployed to Afghanistan on Veteran's Day this year.  We would like to make these packages as personal as possible, without violating Operational Security.

The Fowler Rotary Club has formed a committee, with Pastor Phil Abram as chairperson, to collect, package and send our Operation Hoosier Packages out on Friday morning, October 22nd.  So please turn in what you have collected to any Fowler Rotarian by Thursday, October 21, 2010, so we have time to package the items.

Suggested items that Soldiers need include the following - chewing gum, bars of soap, writing paper, antibiotic ointment, hydrogen peroxide, band aids, small hand sanitizer, baby wipes, travel mouth wash, hard candy, 220 volt to 110 volt power converters, beef jerky, canned meat/fish, dehydrated foods, good coffee, Ramen style noodles, Ziploc bags, travel size games, playing cards, footballs, baseballs and gloves, personalized letters of thanks and best wishes and anything that will remind them of home.

We believe this is an important project that everyone will want to support by sending needed items to our Hoosier Soldiers.  Yes, you can help.  Please look for collection boxes in various locations around our community like the Fowler State Bank, Fowler IGA, Benton County Public Library, Serenity Hospice, Benton County Medical Center, Brouillette Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Demeter LLC, Denny's Pharmacy, Dorsey Hardware, Foundation 212, G & G Agency, Guthridge Real Estate, Prairie Crossing Elementary School, Sacred Heart Elementary School and Benton Central High School, along with our local churches serving our community and the surrounding area.

Fowler Rotarians will be gathering together at the Fowler United Methodist Church on Friday morning, October 22 at 10 am, to pack the items to be sent out to our service men and women.  So don't delay, you can help out today!

Thank you in advance for your support of our Hoosier troops in Afghanistan.
